Hi everyone!
Here it is, my very first travel report! This is day 2 in Perth and I thought it was time to let you know how we're doing all the way down here.
To begin with the flight that was, well, a new experience let's say (; We departed from Schiphol Airport and traveled to Singapore with Singapore Airlines. When we got on the plane one of the first things we noticed was how incredibly welcoming and kind the staff were. Oh and really well dressed, that too. All the women wore very colourful costumes which instantly gave you the holiday feeling. We took our seats, and were suprised by one of the stewards handing out warm damp towels for your hands and face. Odd, but kind!
Furthermore everyone had a private entertainment set so you could watch movies, series and even play games! (I had a little childhood flashback when I found out they had Freddy Fish as one of the games, you understand I just had to play that)
Lunch was served pretty soon after take off and was actually quite delicious for a plane meal. Around 5/6pm Amsterdam time all the sheds were closed, as a way of trying to help you get into the Singapore/Australia rhythm. It's 6 hours later here, for the record (;
But unfortunately the closed sheds and sleeping pills couldn't get me to sleep. So I ended up watching more movies, until we arrived in Singapore. I kind of hoped to get some sleep on the next flight..
But as it was around 2am Amsterdam time when we arrived, it was 8am in Singapore and so the sun started setting. Amazing timing as my body now thought it was about time to wake up instead of sleep.
Sooo I didn't sleep on the second flight either. Instead I doodled a bit and listened to music while Sanne was sleeping on an empty row in the back of the plane.
5 hours later we arrived in sunny, warm Perth. From the plane we could see the red/brown fields, and not very much more than that, as that is pretty much what Australia looks like apart from the cities and coast line.
We got through customs fairly easily, even though we both had taken some foods and meds that we had to declare before landing. All they did was let a dog sniff our bags, that's it!
We were picked up from the airport by Ivette, a friend of my mum and dad who used to live in Holland but moved to Perth several years ago (understandable). She and her little son Lucas drove us to her house, and as we drove we recognized some typical Australian things such as the 'Wild Animal Crossings', the funny looking trees, red rocks along the road and of course the fact that they are driving on the 'wrong' (aka left) side of the road.
Everything looks so different here. The houses are pretty much all bungalows, one floor, flat roof, and they all look quite alike. Also, the neighbourhood we're staying at is close to perfect. Perfectly built roads, parks and walking lanes, perfect houses, perfect mall.
I would almost forget to mention the weather, that's also perfect. At the moment it's about 25-30 degrees and sunny.
I think we'll manage to spend the next 3 weeks here (;
We're planning on visiting the centre of Perth and some beaches in the next couple of days so I will for sure make a new report of that as soon as I have some more stories and pictures to show!

Heel leuk om te lezen wat je zoal ziet en beleefd en dat we het zo direct kunnen delen.
Ook een goede oefening voor ons engels en 't lukt wel hoor. Another time we'll try all in english. Here we have also to speak in english for the portugese language is too difficult for us.

Lieve Myrthe, Ik hoorde net van je oma Adri dat jij helemaal aan de andere kant van de wereld bent. Zelf in Perth. Wat ontzettend spannend. Misschien vind je deze tip leuk. Toen ik, en dat is al weer 18 jaar geleden (oef wat vliegt de tijd) in Perth werkte en een appartementje kreeg toegewezen in de stad, maar die stad heeeel lelijk vond, ben ik verder gaan zoeken om uiteindelijk een plekje te vinden in Fremantle. Toen was dat een heel sympathiek stadje tegen Perth aan met veel creatievelingen en andere leuke mensen, kleinschalig, met marktjes, kleine winkels, restaurantjes etc etc. Ik vermoed dat dat nog steeds interessanter is dan Perth zelf (?). In ieder geval heel veel plezier en liefs van een oud tante van je. Barbara -

Dank jullie wel allemaal voor de leuke reacties! Ik schrijf mijn blogs inderdaad in het engels omdat ik van een aantal niet-nederlandse mensen weet dat ze het ook graag lezen (: dus vandaar.
Barbara, Fremantle staat zeker op ons lijstje en gaan we volgende week bezoeken!
En Paul, ik heb gelukkig weinig last gehad van mijn jetlag, maar heb nu helaas last van kattenallergie wat het slapen niet erg veel makkelijker maakt.. Verder gaat het hier prima en hebben we het erg naar ons zin! (:
